A Space for Neurodivergent Minds in Business: Welcome to My Blog

Welcome blog post
This is my first blog post - WOO! Here I delve deeper into my 'why'. My experiences have taught me a lot and I'm here and ready to share them, and hear all about yours!

If you’ve stumbled across this blog, hello and thank you for being here!

This is my first ever blog post – and at the time of writing (June 2025), my website isn’t quite finished either. It’s a bit like me, always evolving, always a work in progress. Let’s be honest – it’ll probably never be fully finished. I’ll just keep adding to the dream as I go.

So, why start blogging now?

Well, I’ve realised that staying quiet doesn’t help the people I want to support. I want to start sharing the thoughts, ideas and tools that live in my head and come up in conversation every day – the kind of things people often tell me, “You should really write that down.”

I’ve always kept my thoughts and opinions fairly low key. I don’t usually advertise what’s going on in my head, or shout about what I do. But I’m really passionate about helping people and businesses grow – it’s the reason I get up each day and do what I do.

Helping people like me. Helping people who are nothing like me. Helping people understand people like me. And helping businesses grow in a way that makes sense to the people running them – not just the spreadsheets. Because when we create workplaces where people are understood, supported and properly equipped, with the right people in the right roles, playing to their strengths, businesses thrive. And that’s before we even start talking about business models.

That’s the real driver behind this – putting things out into the world that might actually help someone and their business.

This is me trying to get a bit more comfortable with being visible and owning the work I do out loud – sharing the conversations I often have with others, and the ideas, tools and solutions that pop into my head. The kind of things people keep telling me I should share, because they might actually help someone else.

Productivity Tools Are My Playground

I have a bit of an obsession with productivity software. Think trainspotter levels of enthusiasm.

I’ll spend hours, days, even weeks testing, looking for faults and breaking systems – all so I can figure out what works best for who, and why.

It means that when someone comes to me needing help with something specific, chances are I’ve already trialled five platforms that are a solution to their problem. And if I can save them from signing up to 10 different “free” tools and then forgetting to cancel and getting whacked with a surprise annual bill – I’m happy.

If research isn’t your thing, but better software could make your life easier, I’m all in on helping you shortcut that process.

I’m a Sharer

I share tools, techniques, ideas, software… basically anything that might lighten the load for someone else.

And yes, sometimes that includes affiliate links. Let me explain that properly:

I support a lot of people in my own time, unpaid. It’s just who I am (and I’m working on boundaries, trust me).

If I can partner with a software company and get you a longer free trial or better discount – that’s a win for everyone!

I only ever recommend tools I actually use or that I know work brilliantly for the people I support (I hate the word “clients” – let’s call them “my people”).

And yes, sometimes I might earn a small commission, get a bit of recognition, or even be thrown a free packet of biscuits – but I’ll only ever share something I genuinely believe in, use myself, or know supports the people I work with. If everyone gets a better deal out of it, even better. I figure if I’m out here championing tools that genuinely make life easier, it’s okay if I get a nod (or a snack) in return.

For example: I‘m not visually impaired, but I support people who are. So if I’m writing about screen readers, you can bet I’ve done my research, tested things, and asked for feedback before recommending anything.

I often use screen readers myself – not because I can’t see the words, but because my ADHD brain struggles to stay visually focused. Having something read aloud helps me process it.

So even if I mention a tool that isn’t a daily need for me, I’ll always make sure it’s been tested, challenged, and thought through – and I’ll only share if I genuinely believe it can help someone.

What You Won’t Find Here

You won’t find sandwich filler – who wants a roll full of lettuce? I’m not going to blog just for the sake of it, even if the magical internet algorithm gods say that’s what I should do.

You may see bursts where I blog often, followed by tumbleweeds when I’m off having a break from digital life. I too can get very easily overwhelmed and need blackouts to recharge!

I’ll never blog just to fill space, or because you’re supposed to. I’ll only share when something feels genuinely useful, honest or worth saying – even if that means there’s a gap between blogs.

Each blog will be something I feel passionate enough to write, share or (let’s be honest) rant about occasionally. Some will be work-related. Some will have an opinion. Some might be completely unrelated.

This is my little digital playground, and I hope you have fun having a scout around. If you find it useful or interesting – amazing. If not, no problem at all – I totally get that this isn’t your typical ultra-corporate blog space.

What You Will Find Here

You’ll get honesty. You’ll get my voice. You’ll get real thoughts – not AI-generated twaddle.

You can usually spot that a mile off. Honestly, when did foster become the go-to word for everything???

Yes, I use AI – to check spelling, grammar, and to make sure I haven’t accidentally worded something so horrendously that it could offend or be misunderstood. I also use it because I’ve got ADHD (plus a few other neurodivergent delights), and frankly, I need good software to do my job, support people, and feed my dog!

Everything I share will be my own words. It’ll be real. And I’m always up for discussion.

A photo taken from a side path of a bright green field with ploughed lines through the field. The sky is bright blue with some clouds and there's a tree in the foreground. The photo gives a sense relaxation and calm.

In Summary?

This blog is about being honest. It’s about helping people feel less overwhelmed and more understood – whether that’s through tips, tools, thoughts or conversations we should all be having more of.

It’s not about selling. It’s about sharing. And it’s a space where I get to be me, with all the weird and wonderful things that brings.

Because let’s face it – our brains haven’t evolved in over 200,000 years, but the world around us has exploded. Constant notifications, infinite scrolling, adverts, pop-ups, expert advice telling you you’re doing it all wrong…Urh I hate them!

It’s a lot. And if I can make that “lot” a little bit easier for someone else? Then this whole blogging thing will have been worth it.
